２０１９年１月、一人の男によって、日本バスケットボール界に１つの金字塔が打ち立てられた。レバンガ北海道に所属する折茂武彦（４９）が、国内トップリーグで通算１万得点を達成したのだ。 日本バスケットボール界が誇る鉄人は、現役最年長選手でありながら、所属するレバンガ北海道のクラブ運営会社の代表取締役社長を務めるという、超異色のアスリートでもある。これまでの２６年間、日本のトップリーグで活躍してきた折茂だが、常に順風満帆だったわけではない。年齢による衰えを受け入れ、時代の流れによる変化を受け入れながら、２６年という長いキャリアを歩んできた。そんな折茂のこれまでを振り返ってみたい。

La Liga (Spanish professional soccer league) held the “Andres Iniesta La Liga Official Icon Inauguration” at the Kanda Myojin Hall on July 22. アスリートによる社会貢献活動プロジェクト「日本財団HEROs」は、健常者アスリートがパラリンピアンと一緒にパラスポーツを体験するイベント「HEROs PARA-SPORTS DAY 2019」を7月8日、日本財団パラアリーナで開催した。同イベントには、サッカー元日本代表の中田英寿さん、元なでしこジャパンの近賀ゆかり選手、元女子バレーボール代表の大林素子さんらが参加。パラリンピック正式種目のシッティングバレー（座った姿勢で行うバレーボール）や、ゴールボール（アイマスクを着用し、鈴入りボールを投げ合う競技）など計4種目を行い、慣れない動きに苦戦しながらもパラ競技を楽しんだ。

ハンブルガーSVの元日本代表DF酒井高徳が、都内の書店で3月30日に発売された自身初の著書『W～ダブル～人とは違う、それでもいい』（ワニブックス）の発売記念ミニトークショー＆握手会を行った。同著書では、幼少期に抱いていた日本とドイツのハーフであるにこと対するトラウマや、クラブと日本代表の両立、選手としての栄光と挫折など、さまざまなW（ダブル）を得て強くなった自身の苦悩と原点を綴っている。今回のイベントでは、日本代表やキャプテンを務めたハンブルガーSVへの想い、そして同著書を通じて伝えたいメッセージについて語った。
