Historical spikes loved by heroes VOL.26 “Various Adidas spikes from the 1986 World Cup”

The 1986 Mexico tournament was the last World Cup for the two superstars of West Germany and France in the 1980s, who we have introduced previously. In the semi-finals, where both teams were captains, they played with the same model of spikes. Personally, the World Cup is the most memorable for me, and even though it's only now, it was a tournament where a wide variety of Adidas spikes were used.

(I started spike blog.https://maradonaboots.com/I think many players wore replaceable spikes, probably because the venues for the finals and semifinals in Mexico had long grass pitches. In this match, the two players at the beginning of the story were using replaceable Stratos SLs (Figure 1, right).

It was also worn by players such as West Germany's Völler, Soviet Union's Belanov, and the tournament's top scorer Lineker, so I think it was a model favored by aggressive players.

It appears that Platini wore the Stratos SL throughout the tournament, but Rummenigge only wore this model in the semi-finals and finals.

I believe it was the first time Rummenigge wore 3-material sole spikes in a World Cup finals since the opening game against Algeria in 1982 (a nightmare loss).

Figure 1It's a small detail, but this model has "STRATOS SL" on the side.It seems that there are different types with different display locations, and the back of the tongue is white like the World Cup and Copa Mun.

The commercially available model has silver-like lines and soles, but the WThe ones used by the Cup players appear to be pure white.

At the 1986 Games, the two major manufacturers (Adidas and Puma) were still the predominant shoe manufacturers. Both manufacturers seem to have actively developed new products in conjunction with the World Cup, but Adidas in particular used a variety of new and old models in addition to the Stratos SL shown in Figure 1.

Of course, there were many players wearing the 3-material sole World Cup, which debuted at the previous tournament, and the 1986 tournament as well.

In the quarterfinal match against Mexico, West Germany's Briegel (center white uniform on the left in Figure 3) used the World Class (classemundial in Japan), which debuted at this tournament, similar to the Stratos SL, and Mexico's Aguirre (formerly Japan National Team Manager) is wearing Adi Super Sole spikes, which debuted at the 1978 tournament.

Additionally, Rummenigge was wearing a fixed white Adipan sole, and Sanchez on the far right was wearing a Kopamun.

GKSchumacher (yellow) has a replaceable sole with a white sole, and the model name is unknown. Buruchaga's Puma in the photo on the left is still a mystery model.

Additionally, a new replaceable sole model, FX1, was introduced at this tournament. Rather, it was used by defensive players, and it was also favored by West Germany's strong defenders (Figure 4).

It features replaceable studs that can be installed with one touch (one twist) instead of the traditional screw type, and there are three studs on the heel, one more than usual.

The letters on Förster's spikes are FX1It doesn't seem to be displayed, but I can't read it.

In fact, the player Stopira who was defeated in Figure 5 was also an FX1 user (Figure 7 left).

There were even aggressive players such as Argentina's Borghi who wore FX1 (middle), but if you look closely, the two of them have two heel points (six in total).

Sanchez, who is doing a somersault after scoring a goal on the far right, was wearing Kopamun in Figure 2, but he was also wearing FX1 (right), and although he was a forward, his number of studs was normal (7).

Episode 16 (http://king-gear.com/articles/872) As I mentioned earlier, Rummenigge seems to prefer the all-white fixed Adipan sole cleats, and he wore them for several games during the 1986 tournament. This type of jacket was also worn in a Fuji Film advertisement that appeared around this time (Figure 9, right).

However, this model is quite mysterious, and given the timing, it's hard to imagine it being a World Cup winner.Although I don't know the detailed features of the upper, the logo on the heel seems to be an old-fashioned Trefoil and adidas lettering.

As shown in the upper right, a model with a large Trefoil on the heel was already appearing around this time (Kopamun on the right in the inset photo), but Rummenigge's (white socks) spikes had the old type logo.

Other than Rummenigge, I think the only other person who used this model was Berthold, also from West Germany, and very few others. The NATIO released around 1987 is very similar to this, but the heel mark seems to be different.
(PS: West Germany's number 6 defender Eder seems to have been wearing NATIO)

The spikes I recently received from Italy have the same heel mark, and the model name is thin and hard to read, but it seems to say "NATIO NOCKEN."

Bottom left is 90VALLS sold in the(Made in Japan) and appears to be a reprint of the above.

Of course, a new fixed model also debuted at the 1986 convention.
The Stratos 2000, a fixed version of the Stratos SL, was worn by Littbarski (Figure 11 left). However, there were not many users compared to SL.

Figure 11
stratos 2000The one on the upper right was the first model to appear, and the sole seems to have been improved since then, as shown below. In addition to products made in West Germany, there are also products made in Austria, and the display location on the side is also SL.Similarly, 2There seems to be a pattern.

There were many players wearing Kopamun at this tournament (especially in the qualifying league games), including Stopira (left in Figure 12) who was using FX1, Lineker (second from left) and Mueller who were wearing Stratos SL. The fixed type (center) was also a Copamun.

Additionally, the two people from West Germany on the right in Figure 12 also wore Kopamun, and ended up using two types of fixed type. I believe this was the only match in which Rummenigge wore Kopamun at the World Cup.

His opponent, Scottish Cooper, was wearing a world-class fixed version of the Mexican Winner, which was also used by Belgium's Cifo.

The last one is the extra edition of the 1986 tournament, in which Poland's ace Boniek wore the "Brasilen" (see here), which was probably used by his club (Juventus, Rome) in the T1 final round.http://king-gear.com/articles/802) spikes were used in three lines (Fig. 13 left).
In the qualifying league, Sanchez wore 3-material sole World Cup shoes (second photo), and Sanchez, who used Copamun and FX1, also did somersaults with this model (center and bottom insert photos). The situation with the British team's spikes is also really interesting, and Scottish player Aitken's spikes are so ordinary that I can't remember the model name (2nd from the right in Figure 13).

Also, as I wrote before, France's Bossi also played Iberica in this tournament (see here).http://king-gear.com/articles/910) was worn.

It seems that there was a match in which one stud was obtained (Figure 13, far right).

Figure 13
Since Boniek was in a match against a strong opponent, Brazil, he may have worn the model he always uses as match spikes.
I'm thankful that Sanchez can clearly see the back of his spikes.

In the end, all of the models that debuted at the 1986 World Cup were short-lived, and none of them continued to be used until the next World Cup in 1990, and I think the FX sole only lasted until about the 1988 Euro.

I thought I knew the best about the 1986 World Cup, but when I looked into it, I was surprised at how much I didn't know about it.
I wasn't really interested in anything other than God's Spike, but I got really into it.

Someday, I would like to write a Puma version as well.
