Nishioka2 main

To the other side of suffering. New challenge of Nishioka Shiho who experienced the two Olympic Games Vol.2 "Olympic games must do even throw away something"

Ace of Nakaoka Shiho, a female Furee who has extensive experience in the Olympic Games in the past two consecutive games in the Japanese fencing world where the young generation is remarkable. In the first episode I came across the chance of starting fencing and its charm. In the second episode, we talked about the characteristics of fencing and the characteristics of your own fencing.

I borrowed armor earlier and had you wear it, but you can see the other's face a little too. There was a story of the strategy, but what kind of place would you look at during the game and assemble the game?

In my case, I do not see the partner's expression during the game. I see the opponent's movement, though. In the case of familiar players, analyze the opponent beforehand and build a strategy by multiplying knowledge and skills that they possess. In the case of first-time battle players, we often explore the opponent's attitude at the beginning of the game. As I move a little bit and move the other party, I gather a lot of information "This person works like this".

Like other fighting sports, bargaining is a very important sport, is not it? Is there also good or bad compatibility too?

There is. Participants who are pretty incompatible will also be present (laugh). Especially the overseas players are tall and there are many players with reach. At international competitions, some athletes do not like their own preference or timing. I am the tallest among Japanese girls, so it is rare for me to compete with big players in Japan in Japan. So, I'm used to games with smaller opponents than myself, but I do not have the opportunity to play well with players who are taller than myself, so there are things I feel difficult to do.

I think that there are many opportunities to go abroad expeditions, but what do you get by going abroad are quite large if you listen to the current story?

Yes, it is big. I went to the French camp in front of us, but in terms of fighting with French people, preparation is technically both mental and technical, is not it? I can fight against opponents who are tall and have a lot of left-handed players.

When fighting with left-handed players, is it still hard to do?

When the left-handed player is the opponent, the hand and the hand are close, so the sense of distance is totally different. Therefore, if you attack with the same sense as a right-handed player, points do not work well. Even in the sense that we get opportunities to compete with left-handed athletes, the expedition abroad is important.

There are many young athletes in the current national team, but are there any roles that Nishioka players are conscious of?

Age is also the top. Until the Rio Olympics ended, I focused only on myself, but after the Rio Olympics I changed my mind a lot. At the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020, group fights of girls' Furre are included as competition events, and they are supposed to be in the position of captains. There were times when I was worrying about thinking too much about what kind of captain or what kind of action should be taken. Until now, when I was in the London Olympics, I was the youngest and just followed up with my seniors, but at that time it was a nervous and tense team. I am still worried about building a team such as whether to build such a team or whether to make a team with a friendly atmosphere according to the young children of today.

Thumb 4

As long as I was watching the exercise, I seemed to get on with each other in a friendly atmosphere.

That's right. Since everyone is young, I feel that it would be difficult to seek out a lively atmosphere these days. However, in the process of heading towards the Olympics, a sense of tension is absolutely necessary. It's also something you won't know unless you go to the Olympics once. I am faced with the challenge of how to convey to everyone what I have experienced so far, but it is difficult to convey it through words, so I feel that I have no choice but to show it through my actions.

Mr. Nishioka has participated in the London Olympic Games and the Rio Olympic Games, but what do you look back on now?

At the London Olympics, it felt more like I was experiencing my first Olympics than going out to win. The Rio Olympics was a competition where I really wanted to win, but the four years leading up to it were extremely painful. I was able to qualify for the Asia Final Qualifier held in April 2016, but in the games in January and February just before that, I played such embarrassing games that I wanted to play if there was a hole. I shut myself up and cried alone in my room. I finished in the top 16 at the Rio Olympics, but after Rio, I felt that I needed to become even stronger mentally. At the Olympics, you have to give up something to do it, and if you don't make that kind of determination, you won't be able to stand there.

Olympic games are the things that are in front of the suffering. Then, please tell us the characteristics of Nishioka player as a fencer. Where do you think your strengths are?

Is it the easiest to understand the battle that made use of the height and the length of the reach? I would like you to see an attack with a stretch rather than a powerful attack. The power and speed that emanate at that moment when you strike, the sense of distance born from it, I think that it is a feature not found in other Japanese fencers. However, because it uses delicate technology, it is not powerful, I would be happy if you look at those details as well.

Please let me know a little more. Although it is said that I want you to see a striking attack, what is the secret to create it?

Well, of course, I use height as the dominant point, but I think how to use my length of reach. To that end, of course, it is not only the softness and suppleness of the body, but I think that various factors become important, such as the ability to kick the hind feet, how to use the whole body, the timing to launch the attack.
