- What do you think about Japanese baseball boys? 

Matsuzaka: I think today's elementary and junior high school students are not doing bunt in practice. When I go to the park in the city where I live, I am doing bunts and bunt shifts.

I think that the body is big and small, but I want you to constantly imagine practicing by always imagining how to shake the bat steadily and aim for home runs.

- How can I make a full swing?

Matsuzaka:そうですね。急にフルスイングはなかなかできませんから、小さいころからフルスイングのイメージを身に付けて行けば微調整もできてくると思うので、小さい時は振って振って、野球ではなく、「ベースボールをやって欲しいな!」と言う想いでアパレルも用意しています。  

――その想いが他のプロダクトにも繋がっているんですね。  

Matsuzaka:繋がっていますね。全てがストーリーになるようにと思っています。

Matsuzaka:ははは(笑)。常にどうしていこうかというのを考えながらコミュニケーションをしています。  

――現在、何人体制で事業を行っているんですか。

Matsuzaka:これはベースボール専用のアンダーシャツです。本来であればトレーニングで展開している商品を提案したいのですが、高校野球には、試合中にロゴを出してはならないという決まりがあるので、胸の位置で表示しています。中学生の試合でも、地域によってありますね。

:そうですよね。例えば、なぜサッカーのスパイクが売れるかと言いますと、本田圭佑選手であったりプロが履いているモノをどの世代でも履けるからなんですよね。野球界では、それができていないので、変えたいなと思っています。  

――そうすれば、市場もより活気づくと思います。

――これは、日本だけの話なんでしょうか。  

Matsuzaka:アメリカなどは、日本のようなレギュレーションがありません。日本の場合、自分達で市場をシュリンクさせているんですよね。「各社やばいぞ。やばいぞ。」と言っていますが。  

――最後に、今後の目標を教えていただけますか。  

Matsuzaka:今、伏屋と話しているのが、伝統がある野球界に新しい風を吹かせたいなと思っています。アパレルも今までにない野球っぽくないモノを作っていまして、THE野球みたいなのを変えていきたいですね。野球というよりも本場がアメリカのベースボールを体現できるようにしています。
