Interview with Ryota Morioka (Ander Lecht) Vol.4 "Why to prefer spikes in artificial leather"

Ryota Morioka who started his professional career at Vissel Kobe in J League. After that I played in Poland, this season I gained 15 points and 13 assists in the Belgian league. I have heard plenty of stories about the days fighting on the back of Belgium's prestigious Anderlecht's back number 10 on the commitment to the spikes that support the feet in the European land.

――Did Adidas support you from the first year after you entered VISSEL KOBE and became a professional?

Moriokathat's right. The first is Adidas. When I was in my third year of high school, I went to a training camp for the national team, and I became friends with the person in charge of Adidas. When I was asked if it would be a good time for me to become a pro, I was like, "Is that okay?"

――When did you switch to the current Umbro spikes?

MoriokaI got support from Umbro when I first joined the national team, so it's been 3-4 years now.

――How did you meet Umbro?

MoriokaMr. Hideo Hashimoto, who is now at Verdy, was originally friends with Umbro since he was in Gamba, and he introduced me to him. Just when my contract with Adidas expired, I tried on various shoes and talked with them.

――How do you feel about wearing it and how it looks?

MoriokaIt's very comfortable to wear! ! It's the fit I was looking for.

――I had Mr. Yasuhito Endo, who also wears Umbro spikes, participate in King Gear before, and he said that spikes that are too light are not good, and spikes that are a little heavier are better.

There are many athletes who say that the lighter the better. Are you particular about weight?

MoriokaI always wondered, "Is it better to be heavier? Or is it better to be lighter?"

Even if it's light, if it doesn't fit your feet, you won't feel comfortable. I value the feeling when I wear it rather than the weight.

――Did you think this model was good among Umbro?

MoriokaThe spikes I'm wearing now (Umbro Accelerator PRO) are number one. It had a nice feel to it, and it's made with really good materials.

As I said earlier, I don't really like natural leather, I prefer artificial leather, but this artificial leather spike looks like natural leather as much as possible.

The stitches are also made to look like natural leather. It's artificial leather, but it has a little more leather fit. For a long time, I always thought that it would be nice to have spikes like this.

--It's artificial leather, but it looks like natural leather, right?

Moriokathat's right. That's really good.

――What is the advantage of artificial leather for Mr. Morioka?

MoriokaA feeling of size does not change! ! It doesn't stretch.

――It means that it always fits the same size.

MoriokaAfter all, with natural leather, if you wear the spikes in the dryest state before wearing them up, you will remember that feeling.

After the close-up, the leather stretches and becomes a little bigger, and the feeling is a little different.

--I see. It's because the feeling and fit are important!

Moriokathat's right.

――In that sense, the current Umbro spikes fit quite well.

MoriokaYes! They also adjust it for me, so I can wear it without any worries.

――Is this the first mixed sole from Poland?

MoriokaI agree. If it's not a mix and a long point, it's useless in Poland.

――It's hard to hold on. It's very cold depending on the time of year, isn't it?

MoriokaIt's so cold. There is a break period of about 2 months in winter.

- You can still avoid it.

MoriokaIt's avoidable, but it's too cold and the grass doesn't grow properly. It's always loose, the weather is bad, it won't take root, and it's going to be terribly beaten up.

Especially in Poland there are many good stadiums. When the euro was held, they built it all at once and have a dedicated stadium that can hold 50,000 to 60,000 people, but it's bad ventilation in that kind of place, so it feels like it's wrapped up, and the grass doesn't grow at all anymore. , It's just a bumpy pitch. It was useless unless I attached a long point.

――Does it feel like going back to your school days playing on a bumpy ground?

MoriokaThat's how it is.

―― When it's the coldest, how many minus degrees?

MoriokaIsn't it like minus ten times?

--It's tough in many ways.

MoriokaIt's still good when it's cold, but it's tough when it rains. It was really hard when it rained in that cold weather. If it's just cold, it's fine.

――Why did you go to Poland in the first place?

MoriokaI thought, "I have to do it overseas!" At that time, the contract was about to expire, so I was looking for where to go. It was winter time, but there was only that Polish team.

――With no choice, it feels like it's there.

MoriokaIf it's the only place, let's go there! I thought.

――The first time in Poland was the hardest.

MoriokaBecause of that experience, I feel good about everything now. At that time, unlike Japan, I had a lot of time on my hands.

――Do you have anything to do?

MoriokaI don't have anything to do, so in Japan there are things to do after soccer, such as socializing.

However, there is really nothing to do in Poland, so I thought about various things at that time. There were so many times when I asked myself how I would overcome the bad times.
