STORY OF CEO No. 1 Shigetoshi Nagasawa (Hakubaku Co., Ltd.) Vol.2 "Best game of my youth"

I will start a new project. KING GEAR has a policy that "the protagonists of sports are not the only players". A player without a spike, a keeper without a glove, a team without a sponsor can not play a player. It is for the above reasons to do the project to spotlight the sponsor. This time of Vol.2 we will tell "a game that can not be forgotten for the rest of my life".

<Interview 1st is here>

――When you became a second year student, you started to have juniors, and I believe you coached them, but has that experience also been useful in your management experience after working?

Nagasawa I agree. The director was also an alumnus and a lawyer, and he only came on Saturdays and Sundays, so most of the practices were voluntary. Also managing juniors.

Unfortunately, when I was in my first year, we lost all of our games and ended up splitting up. We just won against Hitotsubashi University and then lost everything else. The forwards and backs were battling each other.

It may be the same in soccer, but I think there is more conflict in rugby because the division of roles between forwards and backs is clear.

The Bucks said, ``We can't move forward because our forwards don't throw good balls.'' On the other hand, the forwards said, ``No, we can't go forward because you guys aren't coming forward.'' each other. We first-year students saw the students fighting with each other and ended up quitting.

The more serious people were about university life, the more they quit. If you stay in this club for 4 years, your university days will be completely dark! That's what I felt like.

The remaining humans were carefree, so I stayed behind hoping things would work out somehow. However, when I became a second year student, the captain suddenly started to change my mindset and said, ``We can't do this anymore.''

Keio was the best in Japan at the time of this freshman and was stimulated.

Seeing Keio become stronger through practice, I thought maybe we can do it too! We started talking about this, went to watch Keio practice, stole menu items, and had a tough practice, and the atmosphere completely changed. Since then, I've won four games.

In our first year, we were a group of people complaining that we didn't have talent, but in our second year, the biggest change was that we practiced hard and became stronger in close games.

My first year team lost at the very end. But in my second year, I had the confidence that I had practiced so much, and in the end I was able to win a close game and win four games, and the following year, I won against Keio.

--I heard you won 8-6 or something?

Nagasawa Yes Yes!

--In a sense, it's a great low-score game.

Nagasawa That kind of organizational discipline, or rather, competitive strength, came out. In our 3rd and 4th years, we all tried to win against Meiji as well! I suffered a broken bone during the Meiji game in my third year. Meiji was amazing! ”

--Where did you break your bone?

Nagasawa I folded the right fibula though. During the game.

--Is that where you got broken in judo?

Nagasawa That's right (lol) The Meiji era was strong. Back then. It was extremely violent, or rather intense. I was really scared before the match.

- Do you remember the last match in college days when you became retired?

Nagasawa
In the Kyoto Taisen match in my fourth year, I won by a point difference at the end. It didn't really feel like retirement. As expected, the Keio game in my third year remains the most memorable. That is truly a game I will remember for the rest of my life. ”

.
Keio had never won before?

NagasawaI think this victory was the first time in 23 years! I won a few games a long time ago. That's why the people around me didn't expect me to win, and neither did I.

I just felt like we could put up a good fight. Comparing the power of ours and Keio.

We pushed them in the first scrum. The audience at Mitsuzawa Stadium roared. "oh! The University of Tokyo pushed it! ” Something like that. I was surprised too. "that? I was able to press it! Something like that.'' And the other person was so excited.

--Ah, that's crazy!

Nagasawa It's really dangerous. Isn't this an opponent you absolutely cannot lose to? With that kind of pressure on them, Keio missed two very easy penalty goals. It was raining, and I was lucky, but they took it off twice (lol).

--So you have luck on your side?

Nagasawa It was a strange atmosphere at the end. ``The University of Tokyo might win.'' The other side's face was pale, and I was like, ``Go! Go!'' It was a 2 point difference, but it was really fun.

--Does that mean you weren't scared?

Nagasawa That's right, I thought, "I want to do more!" Keio looked completely pale. It's like the match between South Africa and Japan. The South African players looked pale at that time, right? I was like, “Oh my gosh.” That's how Keio was like, ``This is crazy.'' I guess they were under pressure because if they lost here, people would think of us as bad.

--It's like losing for the first time in 20 years...

Nagasawa That is my first memories of rugby life.

--You didn't feel like losing.

Nagasawa From the middle. Two strange trys were decided。

--Did you take the lead?

Nagasawa I think we took the lead. It was a beautiful try! There was no try on the other side. Two penalty goals.

--The best match was the Keio match when I was a third year student!

Nagasawa Yeah. When it was four years it was hard to get expected. When I chose the captain I was told I was a captain. From the upper captain.

I got scared and thought that if I couldn't get good grades, I'd be in trouble, so I ran away. I guess that was the first escape of my life. I've never had anything like that before.

We made a different person the captain, and I became like the vice captain. I think now that I should have been the captain.

There was that much pressure. When I was the captain of the previous team, Aoyama, I saw him looking extremely sad.

I thought I would hate that role.

--How were your grades in your 4th year?

NagasawaIn the end, we ended up with 4 wins. The score was tied against Keio in the first half. We lost because we lost a bit of strength in the second half. But we had over four wins, which is a good result for the University of Tokyo. So somehow it ended there. My fourth year was a rather tough season, but my third year was fun.

--In rugby, each position really has a different personality, right?

Nagasawa It's completely different!

-- Their physiques are also different.

Nagasawa You can't win unless you have a certain amount of talent. Even if we have one star player, Hirao-san alone can't win.

You can't win if you don't have a good scrum, and you can't win if you don't have flankers. A team is created by combining different personalities. Isn't that what makes rugby so fun? His individuality may be even more prominent than in soccer.

--I agree. In soccer, there are some players who are a bit similar.

Nagasawa There are some cases when Forward and Bucks exchange positions. The backers of Bucks are going forward.

--Well, a forward plays center back. That kind of thing rarely happens in rugby, right?

Nagasawa Not really! Backs can't play props (lol) On the other hand, backs players can't play props, absolutely.

--That's right. This also applies to work! A company is made up of a variety of people.

Nagasawa I agree. Prop is a strong part of the edge. I knew that I needed someone like that after all.
