Maeda Riichi, talking greatly about Copa Mundial Vol.1 "The most attractive thing is not changed"
Adidas' masterpiece 'Copa Mundial'. It is a long seller for 34 years since its release, and there is a J-Leager who has been wearing a scent of a good old spike for over 10 years. That's Raichi Maeda of FC Tokyo. What will Copa Mundial's attracting strikers representative of Japan?

- Spike, it is shiny. And the size is more than anything! I saw this big spike for the first time.
Maeda：28.5cmありますから（笑）。プロになった頃は、足にピタッとする小さめのサイズを履いていたんですけれど、最近は締め付けのないサイズにしているんです。足がリラックスした状態の方が好きなんですよね。
――前田選手がコパ・ムンディアルを履くことになったきっかけは、何だったのでしょう？
Maeda：I have been contracting with Adidas since the third year of professional, but at first I was wearing other models. The point of the spike at that time was not the main one with the blade type being round, and it was not much. I do not know if it is an influence, but I often have a knee hurting. When I was looking for something good, I was recommended to Toshiya Fujita and Norihisa Shimizu who was wearing Copa Mundial at that time "If you try it?" Is the opportunity.
――今回のインタビューは「前田遼一、コパ・ムンディアルを大いに語る」というテーマでして、コパ・ムンディアルは名品の誉れ高い、アディダスのロングセラーです。Jリーガーでコパ・ムンディアルを履いているのは、前田選手しかいないと言われていまして、コパ・ムンディアルにおける「ラスト・サムライ」なわけです。
Maeda：そうなんですか（笑）
――コパ・ムンディアルは、1982年に発売されたモデルで、今年（2016年）で発売から34年になります。1981年生まれの前田選手と同世代ですよね。
Maeda：そうですね。初めて知りました（笑）
- Where do you like Copa Mundial?
Maeda：The thing that does not change the most. Nowadays more and more new models come out, as designs, colors, functions and so on are changing one after another, it is best that Copa Mundial has the same shape forever。
――多くの選手が、メーカーから新製品が出るたびに「今度はこれを履いてください」と言われ、新しいスパイクを履きます。前田選手の場合、「コパ・ムンディアルではなく、新製品を履いてくれませんか？」と言われることはないのですか。
Maeda：それは、ありますね。昔は練習で新しいスパイクを試すこともあったのですが、やっぱりコパ・ムンディアルの方がいいなと思って、アディダスの人に「すみません、コパ・ムンディアルを履きます」と言って、履かせてもらっています。
――何がそこまで、前田選手を魅了するのでしょう？
Maeda：One is color. There are a lot of colorful spikes now, but in my spike is black. Also, using natural leather. I am using kangaroo leather and I like the soft place. The rest is the point. This is pretty important, and since it is round shaped, I feel less burden on my legs.
――コパ・ムンディアルを履いていることで、若い選手から何か言われたりはしませんか？
Maeda：けっこう言われます。「いまの時代に合ってないよ」とか（笑）。いまのスパイクは色も鮮やかで、かっこいいじゃないですか。見ての通り、コパムンは地味ですから。いまでも、若手が冗談っぽくいじってきますね。
――そういう時は、何と言い返すんですか？
Maeda: "This is OK with this and I can not change it anymore." I have been wearing black spikes since junior high school and wearing a white spike since I became a professional, but it's been in a very short period of time and it has been black co-mun for the last ten years.
――年間、何足ぐらい履きますか？
Maeda：８足ぐらいかな。
――スパイクを替えるタイミングは？
Maeda：When points are shaved, leather stretches, if it becomes too soft, change it. I change about once a month. Doing so, you may not have eight pairs in a year, more wearing it.
――スパイクに刺繍を入れる選手もいるじゃないですか。前田選手は入れたりはしないのですか？
Maeda：I am sorry, I can not ask a person from Adidas (laugh). Because it is not a new product in the first place, since it is asked to ask us to wear Copa Munn.
――先日、キングギアでプーマの名品『パラメヒコ』を愛用している、播戸竜二選手のインタビューをしたのですが、彼は「日本代表に選ばれた時に、刺繍を入れてもらった」と言っていました。それまでは、刺繍を入れてくださいと言えなかったらしんです。
Maeda：I heard such a story, I think that I should have put embroidery when I entered the representative (laugh)
