Futsal Japan representative · Takita Ken and Nakai Kensuke talk about Gear Vol.3 "Takita using two pairs of shoes in one game, Nakai using only two pairs of shoes in one year"
As you can see from the previous articles, the two people who are absolutely different about what you want for shoes. This time I asked how many pairs of shoes to use in a year. A surprising answer!
<Previous Vol.1 is here>
<The previous Vol.2 is this place>
Kikuchi: Mr. Takita, you look at the shoes of foreign players when you play in Japan national team matches. Have you noticed that many of the players are wearing shoes from this manufacturer?
Takita: It's amazing, foreign players don't have any particular preferences at all.
Kikuchi:Don't you have any preferences?
TakitaI think there are a lot of players who are like, "I wear it because it's my favorite manufacturer!" But skilled players are skilled, aren't they? So I don't think they have any particular preferences.
Kikuchi: But there is a risk of injury. How many times a year do you two change your shoes?
Takita:How much is Nakai?
Nakai:Um, how many games are there?
Takita: We practice every day, and play in the league (33 games a year plus playoffs), plus a few cup games.
Nakai: I buy less than 10 pairs a year.
Kikuchi: On average, I would say I change it once every month and a half.
Nakai: That's right. I change one or two pairs of shoes for games a year. I change my practice shoes about once every two months, so I have about 8 to 10 pairs a year, including my game shoes.
Takita: 8 to 10 pairs!? In total?
Nakai: Yes, in a year.
Takita:I use about 7 to 10 pairs of shoes for practice in a year, and about 7 to 10 pairs for matches. In matches, I change shoes between the first and second halves.
Nakai:Wow, I didn't know that.
Takita: This way the shoes will last longer. So I use two pairs per game and change them every one to two months.
Kikuchi:When should you replace your shoes? When the soles start to wear down?
Takita:The soles don't wear down that much, do they?
Nakai: I'll lose weight!
Takita:What? Seriously?
Nakai: Sometimes it disappears.
Takita: They do wear out, but they never go away. Are these shoes gone?
Nakai:This is new, but it will wear down with use.
Takita: So when it runs out it's time to replace it, right?
Nakai: No, that's the difficult part.
Kikuchi: So it's better if the sole is worn down? Because it's closer to the floor?
Nakai: Yes, that's right. It fits well with the ground.
Takita: If that happens, the developers' thoughts and feelings will be completely messed up... (laughs)
Nakai: No, no. That's true (laughs).
Takita:Well, it stops pretty well on the floor. Once you get used to it, it'll be fine. It depends on the ball and the court though.
Nakai:I agree.
Takita: Even if the court and shoes are a perfect match, they can become incompatible if the ball gets in between them. It's quite difficult because there are all kinds of cases where the ball slides but the court stops.
Kikuchi:There are two things: compatibility with the ball and compatibility with the court. In soccer, there isn't really that much compatibility with the ball.
Takita:That's true. There aren't many plays that use the soles of the feet. But I went to see a soccer game some time ago, and Brazilian players use the soles of their feet.
Kikuchi:I guess it's because you played street soccer?
Takita: I think so. You use the soles of your feet smoothly.
Kikuchi: I see. Going back to the topic, it seems that when you need to change your shoes varies from player to player.
Takita: That's right. I change my shoes as soon as the heel cushion gets worn out.
Kikuchi:Is it because they are more susceptible to impact and are more likely to get injured?
Takita: That's right. And also when the leather stretches too much. But with these shoes, the leather doesn't stretch.
Nakai: I feel like the leather is returning to its original shape.
Kikuchi: So you only use one or two pairs of match shoes per year, right? By the time the final league match is over, are the soles pretty worn out?
Nakai: It hasn't worn out that much. The more I use it, the better it fits. I've gotten used to it being compatible with the ball, and the leather has become more comfortable.
Kikuchi: It may be a certain point that things are turning with a small number of legs.
