"Yoko Nakano" What is the reason why the world record holders of the full marathon age group continue to run?
Yoko Nakano (82), who ran in the 2017 Tokyo Marathon in 4 hours 11 minutes 45 seconds and set a new world record in the 80-84 year old category. He is an amazing runner who runs his best record in 3 hours 53 minutes 42 seconds. In November 2018, I had an independent interview at Esport Mizuno.

--The reason for starting the marathon
Nakano:I've been skiing all the time, and when I was 70, I was looking for something else I could do, and I started thinking "I want to run a marathon." So I decided to travel to Honolulu and then participate in the Honolulu Marathon.
You started practicing 6 months before the marathon. Twice a month, I participated in a marathon class held at a sports store. I started to run by myself, referring to the training table I was given at that time to run the marathon within 4 and a half hours and 5 hours. In Honolulu, I was happy that I was able to finish in the 4-hour range.
--The second marathon is Rishiri Island
--The second marathon is Rishiri Island
Nakano: After that, when I went to the Rishiri Island Marathon as a cherry blossom viewing, it was a lot of fun. The distance was as long as 55km, but I ran at a full marathon pace up to 42km, and when I reached the goal thinking that it was okay to collapse, I was able to finish in 5 hours and 10 minutes.
I participated in the tournament alone, but the people I met were so kind to me that I started to participate in the tournament on Rishiri Island every year.

--What I went to in the marathon to get out of the 3-hour range
Nakano: Recorded 3 hours 53 minutes 42 seconds at the Hokkaido Marathon. For the three years since I started running, the time has increased in an interesting way.
You just ran slowly and long. In terms of distance, 20km and 30km are many times. When I started doing it, I walked and took 6 and a half kilometers as long as possible, aiming for 30km. Once a month, I also attended a 3km, 5km, and 10km recording session. I ran to cut the pace for 5 minutes. I think it is necessary to run 10km in 50 minutes to do Sub 4.
--Participated in the track and field competition "Masters" by age group
Nakano: I decided to participate in the All Japan Masters held at the National Stadium. At the age of 74, you were able to set a good record when you reached 3000m. I knew that if I went to the 75-year-old division, I could set a world record, and after that I worked hard and was able to set a world record for over 75 years old at 1500m and 3000m at the Wakayama competition the following year. I was very happy to be able to set the best record in the world even though I didn't come on land originally. Since then, I have started to participate in the 800m, 5000m and 10,000m.
--About body care
Nakano: I don't care about the food, I eat what I have made. I don't take much care, but I take turns taking a bath and have plenty of sleep.
--Set a world record by wearing Mizuno's running shoes
Nakano: Mizuno shoes are easy to run because they fit my feet and feel soft.
--Completed the Osaka Marathon on November 25th.
Nakano: The time was 4 hours 30 minutes 16 seconds. The shoes are wave emperors that I wore at the Mito Marathon in October. I like these shoes because they have a thin sole and feel irritation on the soles of the feet even on fine gravel roads.
The uphill at the end of the course was tough, but if I ran according to Mari Tanigawa's advice, I could overcome it without walking. Also, there are many types of aids that I don't usually stop by, so I enjoyed it.
After the race, the comfortable rider 22 relaxed while enjoying a walk through the autumn leaves of the Osaka Castle Expo Memorial Park.
--About future goals
Nakano: I want to keep running as much as possible. I have a world record of 80 years old, but I would like to break the record so that other players will not pass the time. (End)
