I ran a full marathon with running shoes to approach Mizuno “WAVE AERO16” elite runner

The author has been training in marathons wearing Mizuno's running shoes "WAVE RIDER 22" and "WAVE SHADOW 2". Two weeks before the Osaka Marathon held on November 25, last year, I thought "I want to wear the best shoes for myself" and switched to "WAVE AER 16" to challenge the race. Mr. Nakamura, who is in charge of planning running shoes at Mizuno, told me about the features of "WAVE AERO 16" and participated in the Osaka Marathon.

-Functionality of WAVE AERO 16-

Unique corrugated plate

Equipped with a unique plate called Mizuno Wave. The repulsive force generated at the moment of landing is converted into propulsive force, reducing blurring during driving. Supports a stable pace of sustainability.

Lightweight cushion for a comfortable run
Equipped with U4ic, a lightweight midsole material with excellent cushioning. It suppresses the impact from kicking to landing, reducing the burden on the body and leading to the next level.

Enables the speed required for sub 4
It reduces the lateral shake that occurs from kicking to the contact of the heel, and maximizes the power of the runner.

Low drop that is gentle on your feet
The low 9mm drop (height difference between the toe and heel) and the thin sole provide high cushioning. Support runners who want to maintain their speed to the goal.

--About WAVE AERO
Nakamura: The 17th generation of "WAVE AERO" has been released. There are beginner models and advanced models of running shoes.

I think the reason why "WAVE AERO 16" has been supported so far is that it has both the cushioning properties of the beginner model and the speed feeling of the advanced model as shoes that are just right for stepping up.

The target will be a runner aiming for sub-4. Many people who spend less than four hours are more aware of running and marathons, such as "how much to run and how to train".

If you run firmly, you can aim for 4 hours, so I think that it is widely selected by those who have changed the criteria for choosing shoes as their running goals have changed.

"WAVE AERO" is light and has cushioning properties that can withstand a full marathon. I hope you can think of it as an entrance to advanced models.

The concept is "how smoothly you can keep the speed". These shoes are ideal for those who want to run 1km to the goal while maintaining a speed of 5 minutes to 5 minutes and 30 seconds.
I think that you can run while fully feeling the functionality of the shoes after exceeding 20km.

-I tried running the Osaka Marathon wearing WAVE AERO 16-

The fit is pretty good and light, so it's easy to move forward. It had an appropriate cushioning property, and I was able to run comfortably without feeling a push up from the road surface.

However, on October 21, before the Osaka Marathon, he twisted his left ankle and was injured in a soccer match, and the Osaka Marathon started without recovery. After the start, I kept it down and ran at a pace of about 1km for 5 minutes, but the pain recurred before 15km and I stalled. Before the race, I thought, "You should be cool at this pace up to 25km!", But I learned that it wasn't sweet.

31km
I continued to run until, but the pace just slowed down. After the goal, an interview with Kanpei Hazama and Jimmy Onishi, the official ambassadors of the Osaka Marathon, is coming up, so I didn't want to have any adverse effects and decided to walk to the goal.

However, by that time, the soles of the feet on the left side, the fluffy feet, and the thighs had hurt, making it difficult to even walk. I thought that only retirement was "not good", so I just walked toward the goal. It was too far to walk the remaining 11km. After all, I walked for more than 2 hours, but managed to finish in 5 hours and 5 minutes.

It wasn't too bad, but I think I was able to take a closer look at the city of Osaka, the people along the road, and the many runners heading for the goal, and feel a lot of the wonderfulness of Osaka.

The ankle hurts and is in a dire situation. However, while talking to Kanpei and Jimmy, I was absorbed in it and forgot about the pain.

Mr. Kanpei repeatedly said, "Marathon is Shindoi," and Jimmy's goal was to fall down twice, but his eyes were really lively during the interview.

It's too amazing.

-Thoughts for the future-

Marathons must run long distances, which are not necessary for private life, within the time limit. Just run forward. No other sport is as simple and painful as this.

That is why I feel romance. The romance that can only be seen in what you run.

Later, I found out that my ankle had a mild stress fracture, and after resting for a while and then rehabilitating, I was able to run lightly two months later. However, when I overdoed it too soon after returning, I hurt the ligament of my left knee.

What are you doing

How many times did you think?

But I have no regrets. I ran because I wanted to run even if it hurts. (I'm telling myself, but I can't help getting hurt again (sweat).)

My legs have finally recovered and I can run, so I want to try the marathon again without overdoing it.
