Professional boxer Yutaka Kuga "recognized to the world" Vol. 1

この試合が組まれることになったきっかけは、2018年3月27日に、和氣がとったある行動にあった。その日のメインイベントは、日本スーパーバンタム級王者の久我と、同級1位で指名挑戦者の小坂遼によるタイトルマッチだった。日本王者の久我にとっては、世界前哨戦と目された試合でもあった。
奇しくも、この日、タイトルマッチの前に行われたエキシビジョンで、急遽リングに上がってスパーリングをすることになった和氣は、スパーリングパートナーとしての役目を終えると、リング上でマイクを握り、メインイベントで行われるタイトルマッチの勝者との対戦を呼びかけたのだ。
その後に行われた試合で、久我は、挑戦者の小坂遼に対し、1ラウンドに2度のダウンを奪っての圧勝を納める。久我の強さを目の当たりにした和氣は、試合後に久我の控室を訪れて、再び、自ら対戦を直訴したのだ。
この和氣の行動に対して、試合の翌日、久我は自らのブログでこう綴った。
「試合の後、インタビューを受けている時に、控え室にリーゼントボクサーの和氣選手が来てくれました！これが決まったら盛り上がると思います。是非やりたいです！」
久我の本音
本当に心底からそう思っているのか？
半信半疑だった筆者は、あえて、和氣の行動について、久我に質問してみた。だが、久我の回答は同じだった。
「和氣選手が僕を指名してくれて、純粋にすごく嬉しかったですね。ブログに書いた時は、まだ試合は正式には決まっていませんでしたけどね。今までも強い選手とやってきましたけど、いろんなタイプの選手と試合していけば、自分の対応力もつきますし」
挑戦を受ける立場だが、タイトルを守ろうとか、立場を守る気はさらさら、ないようだ。
ただただ、世界の頂点を目指しているのだ。
