Historical glove loved by heroes "Mitsuno red cup box unused edition"

This year, baseball heroes of our generation have been called to heaven one after another. I feel an indescribable loneliness. We will unravel the gloves that were used by all the heroes of that generation.

"Ichiban Kagigaru ni dete..." is the beginning of the cheering song when the Chunichi Dragons won the league championship in 1974. I think that all the old Aichi people could sing.

Morimichi Takagi passed away in January.

Also, in February, Katsuya Nomura, a big hitter, a great catcher, and a great manager, passed away. Although both of them are quite old, as long as they are lonely for the generation who know the activities of their active days. We sincerely pray for the repose of the soul.

By the way, Mr. Takagi and Mr. Nomura used Rawlings gloves and mitts during their active days, so I thought they didn't use Mitsuno's red cups.

However, in the image I found recently, I found that the two of them in their later years were using Mitsuno products (Fig. 1).

Thumb efbc92 Figure 1 Mr. Nomura during his Lotte years (1978) (from Nikkan Sports). It's a black and white photo, but I used a Mitsuno mitt with a cup. On the right is Mr. Takagi wearing blue gloves with red cups.

Mitsuno's gloves with red cups, named World Win, were used by many professional baseball players at the time (mid 70's to early 80's), and were admired by young baseball players.HereI wrote to
Therefore, it is still very popular, and rare items of good quality are traded at quite high prices at auctions.

Also, because of its popularity, reprinthas been released.I don't collect old gloves that seriously, so I don't have very good ones, and I think there were a lot of misleading images in the last column.

However, around October last year, an unbelievable number of unused red cup gloves were put up for sale on Yahoo Auctions (Fig. 2).
Thumb efbc93 Figure 2 Part of the red cup glove exhibited at Yahoo Auctions. All boxed and unused. In reality, there were three times that number.

Figure 2 is a part of it, about 70 unused boxed items were exhibited in total. It's rare to find even one glove from about 40 years ago in this condition... According to the exhibitor, the item was taken from someone who used to run a sporting goods store, and everything started at 500 yen.

I suggested that they should be photographed side by side, but of course they didn't listen, so I arranged the images instead. For the time being, I saved all the glove and mitt images, but please forgive me for arranging only a part.

Figure 3 is an angle where you can see the red cup. In the late 70's, even sporting goods stores didn't have such a large selection. Generally speaking, softball gloves are the best-selling items, and there must have been many stores that didn't sell hardball gloves. In the era of Reiwa, it looks like a prestigious baseball store 40 years ago or a warehouse in Mitsuno. I was really surprised.

The red part of the red cup is made of enamel, and even if the glove is of such good quality, it seems that this part will inevitably deteriorate.

Since there is a reprint version, I would like you to start a service that repairs only the red cup. As a new discovery after looking at many red cup models, I found that the design of the red cup is slightly different (Fig. 4)
Thumb efbc96 Figure 4 The shape of the cup (also the size and the thickness of the round frame) is slightly different. The red part is degraded almost without exception.

Also, I thought there were four grades for the World Win Series with a red cup: "Professional", "All Star", "No Display", and "Title Cup".

However, this time, it turned out that the "triple champion" also had a red cup (Fig. 5). Around this time, the "MIZUNO" mark changed to a design with a large "M" (probably after 1980).

Well, it started at 500 yen, but there was no way I could win a bid for 500 yen, and every model was a fierce bidding competition among old glove lovers. I thought it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and while my sense of money was paralyzed, I managed to get some (Cover image, Figures 6-8).

Two of the cover images are ordinary world win models.

Thumb efbc99 Fig. 7 Same model as Fig. 6 for left-handers. There are two types of boxes, Fig. 6 is designed for blue outfielder (Outfielder), and this box shows a similar type of infielder (Infielder) to this model.

Figure 8 Professional for all-rounders. This is also the same model on the back of the box.

I never thought I would be able to get such a good red cup, so I can use what I have so far for playing catch without any hesitation.

I hope that the virus problem will end soon and that people around the world will be able to enjoy their favorite sports. Also, I just hope that the Olympics will be held safely.
